From The Heart: Jeremy Kay’s colourful art pulses with life
Resin artist, Jeremy Kay, brings his French upbringing and DJ background into his unique creations.
French born artist, Jeremy Kay, may call Byron Bay home now but the colour and movement and creativity of his lineage of French artists and his creative upbringing still shine through in his art. “I was born into a family of artists in Lyon, France, where creativity was woven into the very fabric of my upbringing. Surrounded by the mesmerising sounds of jazz and the graceful movements of dance, courtesy of my mother and grandmother's studio, I found myself immersed in a world where art was not just a passion, but a way of life.”

“From my earliest childhood memories behind the studio's front desk to the electrifying performances witnessed at prestigious venues like the Opera house and Maison de la Dance, my childhood was a canvas painted with the vibrant colours of artistic expression. I believe it was there that my love for art blossomed, nurtured by the sights and sounds that surrounded me."

Trading the jazz of his childhood for the dynamic culture of the nightclub scene in his early adult years led Jeremy down his own path as an artist. “It wasn't until later in life, as I journeyed through the pulsating rhythms of global nightlife, that I truly embraced my identity as an artist. In the midst of DJ sets and worldly adventures, I discovered a profound connection to the creative spirit that had always coursed through my veins but had been denied a chance to come out. Fueled by a desire to blend sound and vision, I embarked on apersonal quest to carve out my own artistic path a journey marked by moments of self-discovery, reverence for my family's legacy, and an unyielding dedication to pushing the boundaries of imagination.”
“France helped me develop my senses and Australia has felt like the perfect place to grow into my own true self. For a young and motivated man living free far from home, the sky was the limit.”

When Jeremy started to experiment with resin, he fell in love with it as a medium. “Resin is the most unpredictable medium there is, it takes a certain persona to surrender to the moment of creation, flow as one with your technique and accept that the result will not be what you expect 99.9% of the time. Somehow it was a perfect match between the medium and my approach to creation.”

“Because resin is expensive and unforgiving, I really try to see my process as a game, something playful. I believe if you think about it too much you take on the stress and you are more likely to make bad decisions. The key to getting into a flow is to be relaxed."
In resin, Jeremy found a medium that reflected to him the vibrancy and unpredictability of the nightclub scene. His latest works use both colour and light to create a unique interactive experience for the viewer. “My goal is to have my audience surrender to the moment, spend time with the artwork, get to know it. Using their own phone, the viewer can change its tones, colours and luminosity... and even synchronise it to music.”

Jeremy recently moved into a larger studio space and is excited to expand this new body of work, while also creating opportunities for the local creative community to come together. “I want to connect with my online and local community, spending more time creating content and sharing my techniques. I am also about to launch a very exciting project named Art Flow After Dark.
